Workshop: Best Practices in the Use of Information and Communication Technology in a University Environment

ETH Zurich is in the process of developing an institutional strategy encompassing all aspects of the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). In support of this process, we are organizing this workshop. The goal is to fuel the imagination of the audience for what can be achieved with pioneering uses of ICT in education, research and management, by presenting and discussing cases of successful ICT uses and associated novel technologies that are useful in these areas. Examples of such use cases are:

• In learning and teaching: ICT-supported group work of students, successful integration of learning management and content management systems, good examples of the use of new authoring systems for ICT-based learning, successful uses of mobile equipment (e.g. laptops or PDA's), etc.

• In research: ICT support for distributed research communities, information management for researchers (e.g. perspectives of the future role of libraries and collections of documents), ICT infrastructure needed for research, the use of ICT in the dissemination of research results

• Supporting management tasks: approaches and systems for managing groups of students, automated processes for enrolling students and managing student records; experiences of the cost of using ICT in education, research and management.
