The objective of the project is to develop a web-based environment for easy access to subject-specific knowledge and content. The creation and input of digital content into the system will also be simplified. Data input will be based on common software packages, such as Microsoft Word and Adobe FrameMaker, with the DocBook standard used as data format.
The project aims at promoting the open access to subject-specific knowledge and information, in the conviction that students and professionals who have easy access to information regarding a specific subject will more readily question their previous knowledge and build on each others? experiences. With rapid information retrieval and versatile search and navigation facilities ENDIC can thus significantly improve the transfer of information and knowledge.
A prototype is already available
http://www.ek.ethz.ch:8080/diglib. Within the project a working tool will be developed to demonstrate the general use of the ENDIC platform, so that unit of ETH Zurich can use it.
