Campus-online Education: The eLearning Concept of the Universität Stuttgart - New Media and Media Competence for the Entire University

Starting from a contemplation what eLearning projects are good for and why they are bad for sustainability, the concept of the Universität Stuttgart consisting of three different programs to improve teaching and learning via multimedia and web technologies is introduced. The programs are explained, the results are shown and the experiences are summarized. Finally the considerations to commercialize eLearning applications, which were developed during these programs, are presented.

Peter Göhner has degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Stuttgart. He acted as as a staff member and later as a managing director of a software technology company in Munich. In 1995 he was appointed as a professor at the University of Stuttgart, where he served, among other functions, as the Dean of the faculty of electrical engineering and information technology, and as a vice-rector for academic affairs and continuing education. He now is the acting director of the computing center of the university.
