New Initiative: "Studying at ETH+"

ETH World 2000-2005

The ETH World program came to an end in 2005. This website is no longer updated and contains archival information about the activities.

Support for a degree program to use new learning technolgies

In the past few years ETH Zurich has invested significant resources in the development of new infrastructure, methods and tools for ICT-supported teaching and learning. Support has also been given to faculty wishing to modify existing content or develop new teaching materials so that they can be used for independent and "blended" learning. These developments have been funded by Filep, the Rector's Fund for Innovations in Teaching and Learning, the New Learning Technologies initiative of the ETH Board, and the Swiss Virtual Campus program. In addition, ETH World has contributed by funding project that put in place the necessary infratructure, tools and services.

These measures have supported a large number of mostly stand-alone initiatives. Thanks to these numerous forms of e-learning have been deployed and evaluated. Significant results have been achieved in many of the courses involved. This development has allowed pioneers among faculty to explore the frontiers and gain experience in the use of ICT in teaching and learning.

The program "Studying at ETH +" now aims at supporting a whole degree program with new learning technologies. ETHplus should result in creating and using an environment which supports students in a majority of the lectures of their degree program. The implementation will be funded with up to CHF 1.5 million. The Executive Board of ETH Zurich will select a project for financial support on the basis of the evaluation of proposals by an expert group.
